A ‘space nation’ with 200,000 people already signed up to blast off from Earth is now creating its own currency before launch.
‘Asgardia’ has called for cryptocurrency and blockchain experts to help – months after putting its own satellite into orbit.
In a statement it said, ‘The competition is open to any and all people to propose new ideas that will help build the financial and economic structures of Asgardia. Submissions may focus on new technologies, including information systems-based ones such as blockchain and cryptocurrency.
The group aims to build a space station from which they can mine asteroids for minerals.
Dr Igor Ashurbeyli, founder of the Aerospace International Research Center, unveiled the plans for Asgardia last year.
‘Asgardia is a fully-fledged and independent nation, and a future member of the United Nations – with all the attributes this status entails,’said Dr Ashurbeyli.
‘The essence of Asgardia is Peace in Space, and the prevention of Earth’s conflicts being transferred into space,’ Dr Ashurbeyli said.
